Building Construction and Materials

REFLECTION

This module in my opinion may not be as hectic as AD2, but it does not mean that it was easy either. In this module, I learn a lot about materials and also construction methods that I was not exposed to at all during semester 1 and 1.5. There are two projects in this module and one final exam.
On the first project, it was an individual project and we have to gather information about a building done by a famous architect and compile them neatly in an A2 digital poster. I had a few challenges while doing this project. The first one was my lack of skill in making an assignment digitally. In my whole life, I had never done any kind of digital assignment, which made me really clueless in how to do this assignment at first and was very slow. Since I knew I was the least experienced in digital platforms among my friends, I knew I had to start earlier to prevent late submission because I still had a lot to explore. After exploring the platform everyday, I managed to learn most of the features in the app "Canva" and now I am more confident in using it compared to my previous self. The second issue was in finding the information, especially in the joinery methods and construction. The building that I chose might have a lot of information online, but it was not so detailed to the point you can find the construction or joinery methods easily. Hence, I had to do my own observation by looking and the pictures and find out what type of joinery they were using. Overall, I believe I did quite a great job because I submitted it on time with all the requirements needed.
For the second project which is a group project, we have to group up not only with architecture students but also with interior architecture students from semester 1. To be honest, it was really challenging at first because we have to work with students with a different major and also experience, we had a few disagreements and miscommunication at first. We were also very pressured because we were progressing quite slow compared with other groups and the deadline for the project was near the deadline of AD2 as well. We all worked together despite the stress, lack of sleep and gave each other comfort when one of us cried. But despite all that, we managed to finish the project on time due to our resilience. This project left all of us with a stronger mental strength and also perseverance.
