Architectural Design 4
REFLECTION
As usual, according to me it is always Architecture Studio modules that are the hardest and the most essential module among all. Like any other semesters the module always have three projects and in each of them I learned something valuable.
For the first project, I find it very interesting because instead of how we were usually assigned to design structures, this time we were assigned to design a park plan, which relies much on landscaping skills. However it does not mean that it is easy, because just like it is mentioned before we have no experience in landscaping design. As a big group in this assignment, it is hard at first to communicate with many different opinions and often we could not make everyone gather for physical meetings. This resulted in a slow start, but with the help of our tutor and some core members we were able to keep up with the pace and finished on time. Although this project has many sleepless nights, overall I find it as a quite enjoyable project due to it being a big group project, I enjoyed working with my friends and sharing the workload together.
As for the second, it is a smaller group project and it is broken up into three to four members per group. With such a short period of time, me and my groupmates find it tough because at first we were unable to make a fast decision to stick to one design. After getting some guidance from our tutor, we finally decided that we needed to speed up the pace and quickly finalize our design. The project is finished with clutch as we printed the boards 2-3 hours before presentation, but I was glad we managed to finish on time.
Now for the final, of course it is never easy. We have a long period for the final project but I find myself struggling in this project when it comes to exploring the solid and void of my design especially in the facades. For the first time in a studio project, I actually read books in order to develop my design better and I also seek help from my own tutor when I struggled. I am very grateful towards my own tutor because she not only provide help in developing our design, but also often give us words of encouragement especially in building up our confidence. I could not have done it without her help.
To conclude, even though the projects were not easy, but I am happy that it had all passed and they all will be a precious core memory I shall cherish in the future.
