Architecture History and Theory
Reflection
I find this module enjoyable since the workload is not as much as other modules and there were a lot of sketching assignments which I enjoy. In addition, it also has less class, making it a less busy module.
For the very first project which was a group project, thankfully we were given the freedom to choose our own teammates. As most of my teammates are from the same country as me and also my friends, I find this project quite enjoyable as I get to work and separate the workload together with the people that I am more comfortable with. We were also given the authority to choose two buildings of our choice and conduct an analysis for them. The objective of this assignment is to preserve the historical evidence of the valuable two historical buildings by recording, documenting and analyzing them so we can still have some fragments of them if they were demolished or replaced by contemporary buildings. By the end of the project, I have learnt how to employ appropriate visual and verbal architectural vocabulary when referring to building types, series and periods, show sequence of historical periods and how they are represented architecturally and finally discovering the way in which many varied factors contribute to the development of form.
As for the second project, it was individual but I enjoy it because we get to visit Kuala Lumpur to sketch out five of our chosen buildings. Not only we did our assignment, we also get to enjoy being a tourist to see the beauty of many buildings and skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur. The goal of this project is to understand the influence of post-modernism to architectural design and construction, building science and technology, and urban design through analyzing of the post Independence of Malaysia architecture and distinguish the way in which many diverse factors contribute to the development of Modern Malaysian architecture. In this project, I have learnt how to work while also having fun, composing and organizing research materials, and analyzing Modern Malaysian architecture practices throughout the history though literature review and document analysis.
