Architecture Design 1
Reflection

This module is by far the most physically and mentally demanding compared to the other modules. As it is the core module that decides whether we can pass the semester or not, I often feel pressured while working on the projects in this module.

On the very first project which was individual, I find it very hard to understand the assignment and what should I do at first since I am not from FNBE but just a normal high school graduate from Indonesia. I was terrified because I felt alone in a group of people who were mostly from FNBE that understood their work quickly and was moving in a far quicker pace than I did. However, with the help of an upperclassman who gave me a detailed explanation about the project and a very kind hearted tutor who gave numerous ideas for my models, I finally understood the assignment and keep up with the other students. In this project I learnt a lot of things such as exploring various abstract ideas and developing them into a design, understand how to apply design principles in design elements and hone manual drawing and model making skills.

As for the second project, it was a group project. To be honest, when other people were in glee because they get to share the workload with their teammates, I was quite worried that I could not work well with my group since I did not know anyone else except one person. Just as I expected, it was tough to work together at first. But as days of working together turned into weeks, I got along with some of the group members at last and we struggle together as a team to the very end of the project. In this project, I also learnt lots of things other than teamwork such as the relation of anthropometry and ergonomics to space and the understanding of materiality and the installation of a structure.

Last but not least, the final project which was individual again. This project was the toughest compared to the others as I got into numerous breakdowns and restless nights while finishing it. On top of that, my health was also declining since I was anxious, stressed and did not sleep for days. But even with those complications, I was thankful that I was able to overcome it and finish my project on time with the mental and intellectual support from my friends and family. At the end of this project, I also learnt a lot such as, how to work under a lot of pressure, creating a narrative and translating them into a series of space, materiality and their sensorial qualities in a space, and creating a structure while considering the human scale (anthropometry and ergonomics) and volumetric boundary.
PROJECT 3
Space and Sensory
This final assignment was aiming to introduce us to the creation of narrative and translating them into a series of space. On top of that, it also introduced us to the ability of applying materials based on the sensorial experience of a space while considering the human scale and the volumetric boundary.
